HUGH LOW STREET MAPHand-drawn map of Jalan Sultan Iskandar and its landmarks

History
Shoplots along Jalan Sultan Iskandar that shows simplicity of design, yet bringing out the beauty within the simplicity. These shoplots have over hundred years of history and are the oldest shoplots in Ipoh city.

The landmarkthe separation
The Hugh Low bridge with 100 over years history marks the separation between Ipoh old town and Ipoh new town.

Over the years
Stacking of sales records, old crumbled papers, past goods. Grubby walls, dusty switches… All these are surely not able to be composed in a short period of time. This shop must have been there for business for a really long time!

Dilapidated
An interesting dilapidated façade of an old building along Jalan Sultan Iskandar shows it’s great history with buildings that has been there for ages.

Congeniality
A great morning starts with a great breakfast, what more in a coffee shop with great food and great hospitality. Thie scene of an old lady serving the customers and the mother feeding the child shows the intimacy that was brought out through simple actions like these.

Lim KOPI
“Lim kopi” the shop name, literally means “drink coffee” in hokkien. This is a more renovated and beautified coffee shop however still having the essence of the classic coffee shop in Ipoh-  the source of a cup of classic Ipoh White coffee to kick start a day.

A whole, like a circle
Sometimes, happiness is just by having a simple meal with family. It is a culture of the Chinese people to dine on a round table as it brings all family members together as a whole, just like a circle that has no breaking points thus no end to happiness.

Simplicity at it’s best
The mother feeding her child while looking over her stall in the night market near Hugh Low street. A simple yet heart-warming scene that brings out the motherly love for a child.

We have it all
As Ipoh is a town with a lot of Chinese people, chinese herbal shops can easily be found there. The chinese herbal and medical shop provides tons and tons of different traditional suppliments which are still practiced and used by most of the chinese people.

Always busy
Most of the shops along Jalan Sultan Iskandar are closed at night, leaving behind the lonely and quiet corridors. However, the street remains busy with cars, as hugh low street is a main road of the city connecting to many places.
